Rally Obedience

Competing in Rally Obedience is great way to build teamwork and have fun in the ring with your dog. Mastering the rally obedience exercises can benefit anyone from those with companion dogs who want to better navigate crowds and tight spaces to agility competitors who want their dogs to have more control and handler-focus. Regular practice matches and local rally trials offer the chance to test progress in a fun and relaxed environment.

Rally Obedience Class Descriptions

Rally and Novice Obedience Foundations (6 weeks)

Belgian Tervuren on Rally Obedience CourseThis is the introductory course for competitive obedience and rally training. The focus is on basic elements that will be used at all levels of competitive obedience and rally including heel position, heeling with changes of pace and direction, front position, left and right finishes, stand position, recalls and stays.

Prerequisite: Canine Life Skills 2 or equivalent

Rally Novice

Are you ready to Rally? Competing in Rally Obedience is great way to build teamwork and have fun in the ring with your dog. Mastering the Rally exercises can benefit anyone from those with companion dogs who want to better navigate crowds and tight spaces to agility competitors who want their dogs to have more control and handler-focus.

Introduction (6 weeks)

Dog Running Rally Obedience CourseThis six-week course will introduce the exercises commonly found in competitive Novice Rally classes, including AKC and World Cynosport Rally (WCRL).

Prerequisite: Rally and Novice Obedience Foundations

Polish (ongoing 4 week sessions)

You mostly know the Rally Novice signs, but you and your dog need practice to develop a smooth performance and confidence on a Rally course. If that’s you, then Rally Novice Polish will help you develop the experience you need to become proficient for competition Rally.

Each week we’ll review a challenging exercise or two, work a little on skill development to help with things like sitting straight in heel and front positions and discuss course handling. And of course, we’ll work courses! At least one course per week will be set from AKC and/or World Cynosport Rally (WCRL) rules.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Rally Novice

Advanced Rally

Are you ready for more Rally challenges? AKC’s Advanced and Excellent classes and the Cynosport (WCRL) Levels 2 and 3 transition to off-leash heeling and add new exercises built around distance, independent stays, jumping and more.

Introduction (6 weeks)

Sheltie performing Advanced Rally ObedienceThis six-week course will introduce the exercises commonly found in AKC Advanced and Excellent Rally classes and Cynosport (WCRL) Levels 2 and 3.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Rally Novice

Advanced Polish (ongoing 4 week sessions)

In Advanced Rally Polish you will develop proficiency to work all of the Novice Rally exercises off-leash. You will also learn and practice the exercises added in AKC’s Advanced class and Cynosport’s (WCRL’s) Level 2 class including jumps, recalls and response to cues given at a distance.

Prerequisite: Introduction to Advanced Rally

Excellent Polish (ongoing 4 week sessions)

In Rally Excellent Polish you will develop proficiency  in the AKC Excellent and Cynosport (WCRL) Level 3 exercises as well as prepare for competition. Courses will include exercises from all levels and set from AKC and Cynosport (WCRL) rules.
